Constricting Rights and Empowering Criminals
Mike Fong has consistently restricted your 2nd Amendment rights while actively attempting to diminish law enforcement. Surprisingly, these policies have not stemmed the tide of rising crime rates, as California continues to grapple with lenient sentencing and unpunished offenses. Mike Fong’s approach has relied heavily on regulatory frameworks that are slow, inefficient, antithetical, harmful, and insufficient in protecting public safety on the ground.
Assembly Bill 733 (2023-2024)
Protecting the Streets by Neutering the Police
Mike Fong authored AB 733, which, if implemented, would have required state and local agencies to destroy surplus firearms and body armor instead of selling them to the public. In an attempt to remove legal firearms to make the streets safer, this action would have instead deprived police of a critical source of revenue used to finance the purchase of modern gear, thereby making our police less prepared and our streets less safe.

Senate Bill 58 (2023-2024)
Legal DUI
Mike Fong voted yes on SB 58, a bill that decriminalizes possession of small amounts of powerful hallucinogens like psilocybin mushrooms, magic mushrooms, and DMT, treating them like minor traffic tickets instead of serious drugs, which opens the door to more public drug use, more impaired drivers on our roads, and more substance issues in neighborhoods already struggling with security.

Senate Bill 2 (2023-2024)
Punishing the Innocent, Not the Guilty
Mike Fong voted yes for SB 2, which harshly restricts where concealed carry is allowed and imposes additional costs and training mandates on law-abiding applicants. This approach places new burdens on responsible citizens while having limited impact on those who already ignore firearm laws; we support policies that directly target criminal misuse without overregulating lawful ownership.

David’s Statement
We will protect and strengthen Prop 36.
I will take the side of victims, not criminals.
Law enforcement will be properly staffed, trained, and funded.
I advocate a common-sense strategy that holds criminals accountable through stricter enforcement and equips police officers with the resources they need to protect communities effectively. Drawing from my experience as an attorney, I promise to address misguided policies that allow crime to flourish by introducing practical, humane solutions that prioritize resident safety. I will restore security without unnecessary bureaucracy, fostering neighborhoods where families can thrive without fear.
